BeefEater Signature SL4000 Review

Probably one of the most popular Built in BBQ’s on the Premium BBQ market  is the BeefEater Signature. Always known for their attention to quality build and high heat output the BeefEater Signature series leaves nothing lacking.
Starting at the top of the Signature range would be the impressive BeefEater SL4000. Available as a 4 Burner + Side Burner option or a 5 Burner + Side Burner option in a Built in or a Trolley configuration.

BeefEater-SL4000-On-Board-Light2It’s safety first with the SL4000 LED Light featuring our exclusive innovative safety feature, the On Board Safety Technology feature assists in ensuring you’ll never accidentally leave your barbecue on. Each burner is fitted with a blue safety LED which remains lit while the gas is switched on

Beefeater-Signature-Grill-Plate-Stainless-Steel-Australian-BBQ-ReviewCooking surfaces on the SL4000 are solid stainless steel rods and stainless steel hot plate. Stainless steel will dis-colour after the first use but they are both hard wearing and if cleaned well will provide years of service to you.
A blend of 60% hot water and 40% vinegar in a spray bottle will generally lift stubborn grease from the grills. A steel bristle brush will also be your best friend.
Solid stainless steel hotplate means bacon and eggs is a breeze. Most chefs will always choose a stainless steel plate for its durability but it needs a constant heat source as it doesn’t do a great job of retaining heat on its own.

What it is, is a peaked shaped piece of stainless steel that is folded over and off-set to prevent the grease falling straight down on the cast iron burners.  Cleaning it up is quite easy as it is washable in a bucket with some warm soapy water.

A quick look at the specifications for building in the SL4000 on the BeefEater Signature Built in Range Guide will be a helpful first step in planning your Outdoor Kitchen area. Complete with dimensions and building instructions.
Outdoor-Use-Guidelines-RevAlways keep in mind appropriate ventilation and always check with your local council to make sure the area that you are planning is going to get the tick of approval from your building authority. You also want to make sure that your gas fitter is going to sign off on the conversion of the BBQ to Natural Gas by having the appropriate ventilation in your Outdoor Area.

Bayonet-Fitting-Australian-BBQ-ReviewBeefEater-Natural-Gas-KitA 9kg Gas bottle will suit the BBQ nicely with the supplied POL Hose and Regulator in its own dedicated slide out gas bottle drawer. If you are thinking of converting the BBQ to Natural Gas (house gas / mains gas) you will need a licensed gas fitter and a BeefEater Natural Gas Conversion Kit. BeefEater Natural Gas Kit has a Bayonet Fitting. You will need to get a gas fitter to fit this off when he converts the BBQ. This a spring loaded fitting that works by pressing in the fitting and twisting.
Natural-Gas-Flame-Australian-BBQ-ReviewWith such a high heat output you want to make sure that if you are running natural  gas (house gas / mains gas) you have enough gas pressure to run the BBQ.

To make sure this is the case simply let your gas fitter know that the BBQ is drawing 97 mj/h for a 4 Burner + 1 SL4000 (19 mj/h x 4 + 1 x 21 mj/h Wok Burner) or 116 mj/h for a 5 Burner + 1 SL4000 (19 mj/h x 5 + 1 x 21 mj/h Wok Burner)

BeefEater Signature 3000 / 3000ss / 3000 Flame Failure Review

BeefEater continues it’s proud tradition with these Signature 3000 Stainless Steel BBQ’s. The notable differences with these models from the SL4000 is that the side burner becomes optional and cast iron, enamel coated advanced grills and plates come into the picture. Available in either a 4 Burner or 5 Burner configuration these BBQ’s are a class above in their build quality and heat output.

These advanced grill and plate at first look they will appear different to anything you might have cooked on before. They have a u shape to them which drains the grease from the cooking area down to the front of the BBQ and along specially designed drainage rails. This flows down to the slide out drip tray for easy cleaning.

BeefEater Signature Stainless comes with a whopping 25 year warranty on the body of the BBQ. This indicates the quality of the stainless steel though one should remember it is not marine grade. We would always advise a built in or trolley cover when purchasing a premium BBQ.

Another exciting feature of the BeefEater Signature BBQ is that you are able to take the BBQ off the trolley at a later date and make it a Built in BBQ. Every BeefEater Signature BBQ has built in brackets incorporated into the BBQ. This means that if you purchase a BeefEater Signature BBQ on a trolley and then at a later date move or simply decide to create an outdoor kitchen this is possible with the same BBQ. Lifting the BBQ out of the trolley and utilising the built in brackets makes this a two for one purchase for those who aren’t ready to create an outdoor kitchen but would like the option down the track.

There are three different models in the Signature 3000 Stainless Range. To understand the differences we have outlined them below.
  • BeefEater Signature 3000s – Cast Iron Burners, Cast Iron Enamel Coated Grill(s) and Plate.
  • BeefEater Signature 3000SS – Cast Stainless Burners, Stainless Steel Grill(s) and Plate.
  • BeefEater Signature 3000s Flame Failure – Cast Iron Burners, Cast Iron Enamel Coated Grill(s) and Plate.  Flame Failure is a safety device fitted to the BBQ to stop the gas flow when the flame fails. If there is high wind and the flame of the BBQ is put out. Then the BBQ automatically cuts out the gas supply.
